Steel and aluminium edging holds a curve and stays where it is staked; thin plastic roll edging is cheaper and tends to frost-heave out of the ground over a winter or two. Whatever you use, set the top flush or just below mower height so you can cut straight over it.

Decorative fence panels mark a boundary and discourage dogs and foot traffic. They are not a deer barrier — that needs height, at least seven to eight feet, and this collection is not it.
