The stand is the part people get wrong. A hammock's total length, tip to tip including the chains, needs a stand roughly a foot longer than that — a 13 foot hammock will not hang properly on a 12 foot stand, and hanging it tight is what makes a hammock uncomfortable.

A correct hang has a deep curve and the ends around four to five feet off the ground, so you sit into it diagonally rather than lying along the axis like a banana.

Check the stated weight capacity against real use, not a single sleeper, and if you are hanging between trees use wide tree straps rather than rope — rope cuts into bark and eventually girdles the tree.
