Circulation is the whole of pool care — chemistry only works on water that moves. The target is turnover: the full volume of the pool passing through the filter at least once a day, twice in heavy use or hot weather.

Bigger is not better. A pump that exceeds the filter's rated flow drives debris through the media and wastes electricity; variable-speed pumps run long and slow instead, which filters better and costs less to run.

Before ordering, note the voltage, the horsepower, and whether your plumbing uses 1.5 or 2 inch unions — mismatched unions are the reason a replacement pump sits in a box for a fortnight waiting on adapters.
