How to measure an L-shaped sectional for an outdoor cover

Black iBirdie cover over an L-shaped outdoor sectional, illustrating the two-arm shape

Measure both arms of your L-shaped sectional, plus seat depth and overall height, before selecting a cover. A single diagonal measurement or the number of seats cannot identify the correct size. For an unequal-arm sectional, record its orientation as well as the two lengths.

PatioZora has separate iBirdie listings described as fitting approximately 92×91 to 95×95 inches and a 100×130-inch L-shaped configuration. These descriptions identify different options to investigate. They are not a promise that either cover fits your furniture without comparing the complete sizing diagram.

Record the layout you intend to cover

Arrange your furniture as it will sit under the cover, including any connected corner unit. Measure the outermost points rather than the cushion alone. If an ottoman or table will be included, do not assume a sofa-specific cover accommodates it. A separate grouping cover may require a different set of measurements.

Write down both arm lengths and label them A and B on a quick sketch. Also record the front-to-back depth of each arm and the highest point. Take a photo from the same viewing position used by the listing’s diagram. A right-facing description from one supplier may not mean the same orientation as a photograph taken from the opposite side.

Compare these details separately

Measurement What to record
Arm A and arm B Outside lengths including the corner arrangement
Depth Outer back to outer front for each section
Height Highest point, with cushions included only if appropriate
Orientation A labeled sketch matching the product sizing diagram

Do not swap 100 and 130 inches in your notes without checking whether the cover supports that orientation. A square footprint can be simpler to describe, but seat depth, back height and the cover’s corner construction still affect fit.

Read “cover size” and “fits furniture” carefully

A listing may describe the dimensions of the cover itself, a recommended furniture range, or both. Those are different measurements. Use the explicitly stated fit range and diagram; do not invent a universal extra-clearance allowance. If a measurement is missing, send the product link and your furniture sketch before ordering.

Classic Accessories’ general furniture-group measuring guide shows why measurements should be taken across the outside of the arrangement. Its sectional cover page presents separate directional layouts. These sources explain measuring principles, not an iBirdie compatibility guarantee.

Look beyond the headline fabric description

Compare the particular listing’s fastening points, vents, seams and care instructions. A “600D” fabric label does not answer every question about water entry, fit or maintenance. Avoid assuming a cover will prevent all condensation or keep cushions permanently dry. Follow both the cover maker’s directions and the furniture maker’s storage guidance.

Think about how you will remove, dry and store the cover when using the seating. A very large loose cover can be inconvenient, while one pulled tightly over an oversized arrangement can stress the seams. Match the stated fit instead of automatically buying the largest available size.

If your furniture can be rearranged, measure the layout you plan to leave outside, rather than every possible arrangement. A cover chosen for one corner configuration may not fit a longer straight layout.

Compare current options without fixed-price promises

The products below show current prices and availability from the store. Open each exact size and review its photos and written fit notes. A different size is an alternative to assess, not an identical replacement when stock changes. Check your final cart total and delivery information before paying.

Can I choose by the sofa’s seat count?

No. Two sectionals with the same number of seats can have different arm lengths, depths and back heights.

Does waterproof mean no condensation?

No. Covering guidance still matters. Refer to the chosen maker’s care instructions and store cushions as directed by the furniture manufacturer.
